GIGA Ventures is the family business of husband and wife, Peping and Joy de Villa. They started the venture in December 2000 by initially buying natural soap in bulk, which were then repacked and marketed as corporate gifts. The consumer response on GIGA’s repacked product proved favourable to the business which encouraged the couple to go into the manufacture of natural soaps themselves. Immediately on the following year the company got into research and development. Their final products found their way to bazaars, specialty stores, department stores, and pharmacies. Later, additional items are added into their lines as they develop more natural based products.

Local marketing was enhanced, in early 2005, when GIGA entered into an agreement with a distribution company which marketed its products in Metro Manila, and showcasing them on department stores and pharmacies. Later the year, GIGA opened its first store at the Fashion Village of Tiendesitas en Fontera Verde at Ortigas corner C5 in Pasig City. International marketing. In 2007, GIGA started exporting to Asia thru a Hongkong based partner. Today, GIGA products are marketed and distributed in Australia, Hawaii, Korea and the United Kingdom.

Lush Company is a handmade cosmetics producer with headquarters in Poole, Dorset, in the United Kingdom. It manufactures and sells soap and other bath products in more than 600 stores in 43 countries worldwide. Its first store was opened in Poole in 1994 although the owners were in the business 20 years earlier as producer and supplier of bath products for other companies. Lush specializes in the manufacture of bath, and body products using organic plant based ingredients. It makes solid product to reduce packaging waste and the need for preservative. These are sold wrapped in recycled paper or in small bags. Of the 300 different products they make, about 65% has no preservatives.

Fresh natural botanical ingredients. Fruits and vegetables are good natural sources of nutrients for the body and skin. Lush believes that they are best when they are fresh and unprocessed because it is at this stage that they contain the most vitamins, minerals and enzymes. Lush, therefore, put these raw ingredients direct to its soap products at its fresh state preserving the natural components of the ingredients keeping their skin healing, soothing and nurturing properties.

Handmade freshness. The products that Lush makes are handmade in small batches based on orders from individual stores, and as needed. It does not try to mass-produce only to stock excess production on warehouses for storage. This is to ensure that the products are delivered to customers fresh, only days or hours old.

Ladybug Soapworks, in Meriden, Connecticut, USA is a small family owned business established just in early 2008. The owner, Sarah, is a molecular biologist and biochemist whose interest was caught on the preparation of soaps and other bath products. She strives to create and provide her customers with the best possible natural products and services. Other than soaps, Ladybug makes salt bars, shampoo bars, lip balms and candles. New items are developed from time to time and added to her list of products offered to customers. Every effort is made by her company to reduce, reuse, and recycle whenever possible.

All Ladybug soaps are handmade using the cold process method. They are prepared without the external application of heat. It is however heated by the exothermic reactions of the oils with the lye in the process of saponification. Natural ingredients derived from plants are used on Ladybug soap products like olive oil, soybean oil, palms oil, coconut oil, added with water and sodium hydroxide. Goat milk powder is added on some items for its special properties.

Marketing and distribution. With Ladybug’s store at William Avenue, Meriden, Connecticut, products are sold to local customers. Chandler’s Soaps was started by Marie Chandler Gale over a decade ago. In 1998, in her family ranch in southwest Oregon, she prepared her first batch of handmade soap in a canning pot in her family kitchen. She made further readings and studies on the craft until she developed a commercially viable formulation. Her first commercial productions were sold in local craft shows, to family, friends and other customers by word of mouth. In 1999, she developed creams, lotions, body oils and other products that made used of the same ingredients. In 2004, Chandler’s Soap opened a brick and mortar store in Myrtle Point, Oregon, as their first commercial outlet carrying the body care and bath products which they manufactures, and other bath accessories. Today, with her soap-making facility in her ranch, she accepts international orders thru the internet.

Natural soap ingredients. Chandler’s soaps are made from carefully selected natural ingredients. These are manually prepared in small batches in cold process. This way, the beneficial components of the botanical oil ingredients, like glycerine, is kept in the batch which is a natural moisturizer. So much care are put into each batch of Chandler’s soaps to ensure that they are gentle to sensitive skin and produce a luxurious and bath satisfying lather, and does not dry the skin.

Marketing and distribution. In 2003, Chandler’s Soap opened a store in downtown Myrtle Point, Oregon where range of products are displayed and sold to patrons and new customers. International orders are can be taken and accommodated thru the company’s website.
